This page is where the tidbits about specific PROJECTS that have been gathered during web surfing and publication scanning about all facets of our favorite subject – ENGRAVED GEMS.  The project topics have been selected when thoughts arise about areas that appear not to have been specifically addressed in literature that MyI has come across (that’s not to say that it doesn’t exist; it just hasn’t popped up on our radar yet).  The following is a portfolio of those PROJECT titles with links to the PROJECT pages.  It is hoped that others may benefit from what has been gathered so far and that additional information can be added through the comment area.  The ultimate goal would be, of course, an article with appropriate background and content about the PROJECT topic.

  TASSIE PROJECT

Objective:

• Create searchable database of images and associated text, available online of the Raspe Tassie 1791 catalogue of intaglio impressions (impressions of small engraved semi-precious gems).

Data sources:

• The Raspe Tassie 1791 Catalogue is available online as a .pdf file which consists of entries for 15,800 intaglio impressions, each individually numbered in text format in both English and French.
• Images of each intaglio impression included in 477 photos of drawers having the items located in rows with the first item in each row numbered, corresponding to the entries in the text catalogue.

Final Outcome:

A database, accessible by online text or image search, returning the pertinent image location and associated text from the catalogue, together with any other relative information.

Comments:

The .pdf text files of the catalogue are readily accessible online without restriction

The photographic images are available online with restrictions; however, I believe I can obtain the appropriate permissions to use them.  There may even be higher resolution color photos available to be used.
