Why the ENGRAVEDGEM.COM? 

The site is an on-line topical filing cabinet.  The drawers are populated with bits and pieces, scraps, and various factoids gleaned during the pursuit of a hobby and collection of all things EG.

In the mid 1980’s I acquired my first intaglio pendant at an antique shop in Micanopy, Florida.  The carved carnelian was the main attraction.  It immediately called attention to itself while raising all sorts of questions about it’s meaning (if any), its origin and it’s life story. These thoughts, however, were to be set aside due to the demands of day-to-day life and business.  This piece was soon relegated to a small box, being joined by several other pieces during the next couple of years.  An interest had been formed, but not yet pursued.

It wasn’t until the early nineties that the www became available to the general public, so any research about EG was limited to printed material.  Being such a narrow topic, not much was available to the individual collector. The collected items sat unnoticed and underappreciated.
