Engraved gems,

superior works of art they may be, are still inanimate objects.  They often depict history; sometimes have, themselves, taken part in history; but still are, in the end, just lumps of stone.  What gives them life are the personalities of their subjects; of those who created them, traded them, owned them, wrote about them, and brought value and recognition to them.

These pages are a collection of information about some of those personalities.  Some are renowned for their accomplishments.  Some are relatively unknown.  The lives of all have been entwined, in one way or another, with engraved gems.

The images below represent the latest addtions to the list; hover and click on one to open it’s page.  The list to the right is an alphabetical presentation of ALL of the personalities available.  Click on any one to access it’s page.

Biographies are limited; instead references and links are provided where possible.  Some little known anecdotes are presented to add interest.  They are merely one of many possible starting points of a journey into the wonderful world of the ENGRAVED GEM.

The following Chart is a timeline of the lives of the Personalities.  Click on the Chart to open full size.
